Do not let fear dissuade you from making a change. Taking steps toward your goal, no matter how small, will help you gain momentum. This momentum will encourage you to continue to take action, working toward the goal. Eventually, the amount of progress you have made toward your goal overshadows your initial fear of making a change. Trust me, it works for any goal. Whether the goal is to cut down on using, get off drugs, start a new career, or get in shape, the only way to achieve it is to take action towards it little by little.
